The circular crest with the dominant Cross represents the World, which is redeemed by God. The central section of the Cross has a pictorial depiction of a Church, which may be interpreted at two levels - the universal and the personal. At the universal Church, the bride of Christ, Pure, Faithful & true. On a personal level, the Church represents St. Joseph's Cathedral, Lucknow, where the Bishop last served before his elevation to the Episcopate and to which he returns as his Principal Church, the Cathedral.

The motto of the Bishop of Lucknow TOWARDS A NEW SOCIETY inscribed in the scroll beneath the crest, epitomizes his goals and aspirations, which with the grace and inspiration of God, he believes, may be achieved through LOVE, PEACE, TRUTH and JUSTICE, which are represented symbolically in the four corners of the cross by the Sacred Heart (love) , a dove bearing an olive twig (peace), a lamp (truth) and a set of scales (justice).
