Veteran Missionary and Senior Priest Fr. Anthony Gonsalves is no more

Fr. Anthony Gonsalves, one of the senior Priests of the Diocese of Lucknow passed away in Daman (Goa Archdiocese) on 6 March 2018 where he was living since about a year. He was 81 years old. Born in Portuguese Goa in 1936, he was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Lucknow on 3 December 1966. As a young Priest he worked in the Cathedral in Lucknow (1968), and then in the Missions of Kathgodam (1970), Gonda (1970), Amausi (1980), Palia (1989) after which he took a Sabbatical and early Retirement in 1995 but returned to the Diocese in 2016 and started residing at the Clergy Home. He also worked in a Parish in Portugal during his Sabbatical years from 1995-2016. He had returned, once again, to Daman (Goa Archdiocese), his native place, in 2017. He passed away from this life unto eternity on 6 March 2018. As he had died in Daman and was buried there, two Fathers from the Diocese, Fr. Andrew DíCunha and Fr. Francis DíSouza represented the Bishop and the Diocesan family at his funeral on 8 March 2018 in Bom Jesu Church in Daman. Speaking on behalf of the Diocese at late Fr. Anthonyís funeral, Fr. Andrew DíCunha said that Fr. Anthony Gonsalves was a selfless missionary and a pioneer in several places. He thanked late Fr. Anthonyís family for offering him to be a Missionary Priest in the Diocese of Lucknow.
