One should believe in marriage as one believes in the immortality of the soul": This quote sums up the premise of the ´Marriage Preparation Course´ conducted by the Diocesan Family & Laity Commission under the leadership of Fr. Andrew D´Cunha, it´s current Diocesan Director. It was held from August 10-12, 2018, at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre NAVINTHA, under the Patronage of Bishop Gerald John Mathias, along with Fr. Andrew, Fr. Domnic Pinto, Fr. Ronald D'Souza, Fr. Francis D'Souza, Fr. Rajesh D´Souza and Staff Nurses of Fatima Hospital together with Sr. Mariyan and Sr. Blessy and Mr. Denzil Godin and Mrs. Lina Godin, a married couple. It proved to be an enriching and enlightening experience for all as the Young men and women, about to get married, learned to look at Marriage as something much deeper than merely bringing two people together.
The 29 participants learnt that Marriage is a Sacrament, which helps in the communion of two souls, united by love and the plan of the Almighty. "Marriage is the cradle of the universe, helping us create new life, bestowing on two people the responsibility to bring up the next generation in the ways of our Lord. Marriage helps us take responsibility for the human race, deciding it’s course and well being through family planning measures. In short, marriage is an opportunity which tests all our core values and human tendencies and is nothing short of a marvellous journey, taking us away to junctures which shape our lives", learnt the participants. "This is what this course instilled in us, leaving us completely internalised at the broad spectrum of marriage, something we were oblivious about until now", concluded others. The Marriage Preparation Course is a regular feature of Family Apostolate of the Diocese since several years. It is generally conducted twice a year, in April and September, or near these months, for all those who intend getting married in a particular year.
