Prabhu Isa Masih Mandir and Ashram Blessed and Inaugurated
An historical day in the life of the Diocese of Lucknow! In the light of the openness of Vatican II to new forms of evangelization, adaptation and inculturation, an Ashram Church, called Prabhu Isa Masih Mandir was blessed and inaugurated, with the Holy Eucharist, by Bishop Gerald J. Mathias of Lucknow, on August 18, 2018, in the presence of seven Priests, twenty Religious Women, and numerous Krist Bhaktas from the surrounding areas. The ceremony and the Holy Mass had everywhere an Indian flair: in decorations, vestments and ceremonies. The several people of other faiths were deeply impressed by the ‘Indianess´ of the whole ceremony, with which they could identify emotionally and in their religiosity. The Acharya of the Ashram, Pavitra Baba, a priest of the Diocese, living in the Ashram Tradition of India, left no stone unturned to make the entire ceremony Indian and Ashram-oriented. This is the only Christian Ashram in the Diocese of Lucknow until now, modelled on a few famous Christian Ashrams in North India like in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Bijnor, Varanasi and elsewhere. A simple vegetarain meal was served to.all who were present.
